Our take

Bergamot is nearly the whole top note here, just one ingredient doing the work most fragrances split across four or five, and it hands off quickly to Sichuan pepper and lavender in the heart. That handoff is fast and a little sharp, more tingle than transition, nutmeg arriving just after to round off the edges and give the pepper somewhere warmer to land.

Ambroxan and vanilla carry the base, and ambroxan in particular is what gives this its long, unhurried hold on skin, still readable well after most fragrances would have thinned out, along with a presence noticed by whoever's talking to you, calm and controlled rather than overwhelming even once the base has fully settled in.

Star anise and nutmeg add a warm, anise-heavy spice to the middle, herbal and dry, not sweet, closer to a spice cabinet than a dessert tray.

This works equally well for spring, fall or winter, genuinely built for more than one season, and it suits an office desk about as comfortably as it suits a dinner reservation. Lavender keeps the whole thing feeling clean and put-together, easy to reach for without much thought.
