Our take

Bergamot and cypress open with a sharp, resinous lift that feels like walking past a row of trimmed hedges after rain. Cardamom adds a brisk bite that keeps the first minutes from leaning too soft. Rosemary and nutmeg step in quickly, pushing the scent toward a kitchen herb garden rather than a polished citrus splash. The heart stays green and peppery, never sweet, and the citruses here read more like pith and leaf than juice.

The drydown is where Ulan settles into its own personality. Patchouli and moss create a damp, forest floor texture that grounds the brighter top notes. Tonka bean rounds the edges without turning the blend sugary, leaving a warm, earthy impression that feels close to skin and nature at once. It is aromatic and woody in a way that suggests a clay pot sitting in a shaded courtyard, dry soil meeting cool air. The vanilla accord is present but quiet, more a faint creaminess than a dessert note.

This is a fragrance for someone who enjoys smelling like plants and earth rather than perfume. The limitation is that the synthetic edge in the heart can feel a little sharp and medicinal if the weather turns too humid. It lacks the smooth transition that would make it feel truly natural, and the nutmeg sometimes clashes with the moss instead of supporting it.
