Our take

Xplicit Vanilla opens with a dark chocolate ganache that is more bitter than sweet, a smooth, almost dusty cocoa powder hit that quickly yields to the star player: Mexican vanilla, creamy but not cloying, with a faint boozy warmth. The heart is where the real tension lives. Cambodian oud rises like hot tar over a stove, rough and animalic, while brown sugar and Australian sandalwood try to coax it into a waltz. Cedarwood adds a dry, pencil shaving crispness, stopping the whole affair from tipping into syrup. As it dries down, tonka and benzoin wrap the oud in a soft amber blanket, powdery and balsamic, like a velvet smoking jacket lined with fur.

This is a heavy, deliberate fragrance. It feels polished and niche-adjacent rather than mainstream synthetic, though the oud is restrained enough for curious gourmand lovers. The sillage is a polite cloud, not a bludgeon, and longevity sits just under four hours on skin, which is a touch disappointing for such a dense composition. You will need to reapply or overspray.

This is a winter coat scent, a cold night by the fire, a dinner where you want to stay close. It suits anyone who wants a sweet oud without surrendering to bubblegum vanilla. Skip it for spring afternoons or any humid setting. One question lingers: would a higher dose of that Cambodian oud have made this truly explicit, or would it have broken the spell?
