Sauvage Rare Blend opens with a sticky, labdanum-laced oud that feels less like a desert night and more like a burnt plastic toy left in the sun. The vanilla and powdery musks try to smooth the rough edges, but they only succeed in creating a synthetic, syrupy haze that clings to the skin without warmth or depth. Within an hour, the whole thing collapses into a flat, balsamic sweetness with none of the woody richness the name promises. The overall character is like a cheap oud candle melted over a vanilla air freshener. It wears heavy and artificial, leaning more toward a drugstore interpretation of an oriental than anything a perfumer of Kurkdjian’s caliber should release. Longevity barely stretches two hours, and sillage is a faint, musky whisper that vanishes before you leave the house. With a rating scraping 1.58, this is one of the year’s clearest misses. Who would wear this? Maybe someone who needs a summer-friendly vanilla scent that doesn’t project, but even then, there are dozens of better options. Skip it if you value texture, depth, or any sense of originality. It’s best forgotten on a warm, empty afternoon where you’d rather not smell like anything at all.
