Our take

Volutes opens with a honeyed swirl of tobacco that feels less like a cigar lounge and more like a warmed jar of candied ginger. The iris arrives quickly, dusty and lipstick-pink, softening the sweetness into something powdery and almost violet-like before the spices creep in, not sharp but rounded, like cloves dissolving in mulled wine. Styrax adds a faint resinous glow, earthy and ambered, keeping the whole composition tethered to the ground rather than floating off into perfumery cloud.

This is a winter sunset caught in a crystal decanter: the light is low, the air smells of dry leaves and woodsmoke, and someone is pressing flowers into a book. It feels natural in its warmth, not medicinal or synthetic, but definitely niche in its insistence on mood over volume. The sillage is a hushed whisper, and longevity hovers around three or four hours, which is the real weakness. You get a brief, lovely immersion, and then it fades like steam on a window.

Who should wear it? Someone who wants their fragrance to sit close, an intimate secret rather than a broadcast. Skip it if you crave projection or all-day presence. Best worn in fall or winter, especially for a quiet evening walk or a late night reading by lamp light. The balance of sweet honey and dusty iris keeps it from feeling too heavy, but it would struggle in summer heat. Is there a more poetic way to say “I’m here, but I’m not shouting about it”? Volutes doesn’t need to shout. It hums.
