Our take

Eden-Roc opens with a briny slap of sea salt and mineral grit, a sharp citrus peel cutting through the dampness like a blade of light on wet rock. The heart blooms with a creamy jasmine and coconut, but the mastic or lentisque resin adds a green, almost leathery bitterness that prevents it from tipping into suntan-lotion cliché. On the dry down, pine and labdanum emerge, but they feel distant, like the scent of a cliff-top forest carried on a breeze that never quite reaches you.

This is the olfactory equivalent of a smooth, salt-crusted pebble that you pick up from a secluded cove, hold for a moment, then put back in your pocket and forget about. It is undeniably fresh and mineral, but it leans synthetic in its transparency, more like an artful interpretation of sea spray than the real thing. For all its polish, the longevity is a frustrating three hours, and the sillage barely whispers. You will need to press your nose to your wrist to catch the final pine-labd anum fade.

This fragrance suits those who prefer a clean, understated scent that doesn't announce itself, perfect for a breezy summer morning on a terrace. Skip it if you want projection, depth, or anything that lasts through lunch. Eden-Roc is a beautiful ghost, but a ghost nonetheless.
