Our take

Green and aldehydic before anything else, the opening leans sharp: galbanum and clary sage cut through the aldehydes, with gardenia and bergamot offering only a little softness against all that bite. It smells cold and slightly bitter at first, the kind of green that takes a while to warm up.

The heart is where the florals take over completely: narcissus, iris, carnation, orris root, jasmine, lily-of-the-valley, rose and neroli, eight different flowers layered on top of each other without any single one taking full control. Iris and orris root add a powdery, cool undertone that runs underneath the brighter flowers for the whole heart.

Oakmoss, leather, vetiver and patchouli move into the base, dry and a little bitter, and labdanum, amber and sandalwood round off the sharper edges, keeping the whole composition wearable rather than austere. That mossy, earthy base is the most old-fashioned part of the whole composition, giving the florals something dark to stand on.

Wear time is genuinely long-lasting, still there well after the green opening has burned off into the drydown. What it gives off stays modest and floral, the kind of earthy, powdery trail a person standing close would pick up right away. Spring and fall suit Miss Dior best, cool weather for the green, aldehydic opening to make sense.
