Our take

Miss Dior (2012) runs on a surprisingly short note list: Italian mandarin on top, rose and Egyptian jasmine in the heart, patchouli and musk in the base. Five notes produce a far busier accord profile than the list suggests, earthy, spicy and balsamic threads running through what looks on paper like a simple citrus-rose-musk structure. Getting a busy, spicy-earthy accord out of only five listed notes is really the story of this fragrance from top to bottom.

Patchouli is doing more work here than its single mention implies, giving the rose an earthy, slightly bitter backbone instead of letting it stay purely floral. Egyptian jasmine plays a quieter role than the rose, adding warmth underneath its brighter top layer.

It wears with real persistence once applied, and the sillage sits as a compact presence near the body, felt clearly by the wearer without spreading much further. Spring and fall suit it best in daytime wear, though it holds up fine into a dinner setting too. The earthy patchouli base is what gives what could have been a simple rose soliflore its actual depth and grip.
