Love in White

Love in White is not built for making an entrance. Orange peel opens it briefly before giving way to an enormous floral heart: magnolia, narcissus, rice, Italian jasmine, iris and Bulgarian rose all crowded onto one shelf at once, closer to a florist's cooler in early morning than to a single bouquet. Narcissus and iris bring a slightly powdery, green undertone alongside the sweeter magnolia and rose, so the bouquet never leans purely sweet.

Rice is the note doing the most unusual work here, giving the florals a starchy, faintly savory undertone alongside their natural sweetness and powder. Italian jasmine and Bulgarian rose round the bouquet out with a more classical, honeyed floral character, grounding the stranger rice note in something familiar.

Ambergris, sandalwood and vanille settle the base, soft and warm from the ambergris, giving the vanilla a rounder, less straightforward sweetness. Sillage sits at a modest bubble, present for whoever is close enough to talk to. Longevity holds a fair, ordinary stretch, felt for a good while before it softens toward nothing. It comes into its own at daytime gatherings, worn where an enormous, powdery floral bouquet feels appropriate rather than overwhelming.
