Our take

The lights are low and the room feels warm. Grapefruit and lemon arrive first, bright and sharp, with black pepper adding a quick bite that keeps the citrus from leaning too clean. The opening moves fast and does not linger on the surface. Violet leaf and lavender follow, softened by jasmine, and the air turns aromatic and slightly ozonic. It feels modern and composed, not loud, and the floral heart sits comfortably beside the spice without turning sweet or powdery.

The base is where the real character lives. Oakmoss brings a mossy, earthy weight that grounds the entire composition, while amber adds a golden, resinous warmth that deepens the mood. Woody notes round out the foundation and give the fragrance a steady, masculine presence that feels intimate rather than expansive. The moss and amber work together to create a classic fougere impression that stays close to the skin and avoids modern sweetness. It smells like a tailored evening, refined and quietly confident.

The problem is the formula itself. The jasmine and violet leaf create a slight synthetic edge that becomes noticeable once the citrus fades, and the lavender feels more chemical than natural. Oakmoss tries to steady the blend, but it cannot fully hide the artificial quality in the heart. The amber helps, yet the overall impression lacks the smooth realism that makes a fougere feel expensive. It is an interesting idea with a strong drydown, but the execution leaves a plastic trace that some will not tolerate.
