Our take

Amarige D'Amour opens like someone shook a ripe black currant bush onto a bouquet of sweet peas and cassia, the entire thing dripping with a sticky, green tartness that feels more like a spring garden in full, messy bloom than anything remotely perfumey. That initial burst is almost overly cheerful, but then the white mimosa and rose hip arrive to fluff everything into a cloud of powdery, soft-spiced florals, the jasmine and lily-of-the-valley holding hands with a waxy rose that never screams, just hums. It dries down to a sandalwood and ambergris base that is polite and slightly salty, like skin warmed by sun through a linen shirt.

The overall character is a chypre-floral that wears its fruitiness like a sprig of currant leaves pinned to a silk blouse: a bit retro, a bit frothy, but with an unexpected woody backbone that keeps it from dissolving into pure sweetness. The numbers tell the story: longevity and sillage are moderate, a 3 out of 5, meaning you get a solid four hours of close company before it retreats to a gossamer whisper. This suits the woman who wants a cheerful, ladylike scent for brunch, a wedding shower, or a breezy afternoon walk through a botanical garden, but skip it if you crave nuclear projection or dark, brooding atmospherics. That said, the synthetic edge of the sweet pea and cassia can feel a tad sharp in the opening, a small price for such a buoyant, flower-crowned daydream.
