Our take

Axum opens with a dry, resinous mix of incense and cloves that carries a faint savory edge from the cumin. The spices feel dusty rather than hot, and they give way steadily to a heart where patchouli meets a sparkling Champagne note. Cashmere wood rounds out that middle phase with a smooth, slightly synthetic woodiness that keeps the texture even. The patchouli here is earthy and dark, not fresh or green, and it anchors the brighter elements so the transition feels controlled rather than abrupt.

The drydown is where the fragrance settles into its true shape. Vanilla and ambergris bring a warm, slightly salty sweetness that blends with the white musk to form a soft, balsamic base. The smoky accord lingers beneath the surface, giving the vanilla a resinous depth instead of a sugary one. The composition stays cohesive from the first spray to the final trace, but the musk and ambergris eventually thin out in character even when the scent remains present. The vanilla can lean a bit flat and one-dimensional compared to the rich spice that opens the wear, which limits how expressive the late stage feels.
