Balafre Vert opens with lavender and bergamot brightened by neroli, while cypress adds a sharp green edge. The top notes feel clean and brisk, giving the fragrance an immediate herbal lift that settles quickly into the rest of the composition.
The heart introduces pine tree and cedar alongside geranium, sage, and fern. Cloves bring a mild heat to the green mass. The middle stage is dense with aromatic foliage, and the scent becomes drier and more woody as the herbs and resinous woods take over.
Oakmoss and vetiver form a firm base with leather, musk, and amber. The leather is smooth rather than rugged, and the moss lends an earthy bitterness that keeps the amber from feeling sweet. The drydown stays close to the skin, emphasizing wood and moss over warmth.
The herbal and mossy elements are well balanced, but the cloves and sage can feel slightly harsh on first application. The transition between the pine-heavy heart and the mossy base lacks a gentle middle step, making the shift feel abrupt rather than seamless.
