Close To Midnight
Fragrance notes
Character
A sharp jolt of coffee rouses the jasmine, but this isn’t a bright, caffeinated blast. The jasmine is dusky, almost indolic, a white floral that’s been kept up past its bedtime. Then the heart settles in: creamy tonka bean and labdanum’s sticky, ambered resin, sweetening the brew into something warm and narcotic. The drydown is a quiet surrender of ambergris and clean musk, turning the whole composition into a skin-scented whisper. It feels like the last dregs of a spiked latte at 1 a.m., the cup still warm, the conversation trailing off into comfortable silence.
This is an unapologetically close-wearing fragrance. With a sillage that barely reaches beyond a hand’s breadth and modest longevity, it’s more private journal than public announcement. The accords are rich — amber, balsamic, a touch of animalic musk — but they never shout. Nathalie Lorson crafted something that feels natural and refined, neither aggressively niche nor cheaply synthetic. It drapes like a cashmere scarf you have to lean in to smell.
This is for the person who wants intimacy, not a crowd. Skip it if you need to be smelled from across the bar. Wear it on a cold autumn night, a winter date when you’ll be brushing close, or any evening where proximity matters more than projection. Fall and winter are its true seasons. It’s lovely, but realistic: a velvet glove, not a sledgehammer. 🌙
