Else
Fragrance notes
Character
Else opens with a crisp metallic sting, like cold brass touched to a warm citrus peel. The mandarin and bergamot are there, but they’re shivering, held at arm’s length by that sharp mineral note. It softens quickly into a dense floral heart where carnation’s clove-like spice rubs shoulders with a creamy champaca and a slightly jammy May rose, all suspended in the honeyed weight of cassia bourbon. The dry down is where this fragrance earns its keep: a dusky, mossy tobacco tinged with the leathery powder of orris and heliotrope, while Mousse de Saxe adds a vintage, almost cosmetic bitterness over a warm patchouli amber base. The overall character is a fallen bouquet left overnight on a library floor, pages damp, petals bruised, the air still sweet but with an earthy, melancholy edge. It feels natural enough in its materials, but the composition leans decisively niche, refusing to be pretty or easy. The sillage is modest, nearly a whisper, and longevity struggles past four hours on skin, which is a real shame for such an intricate blend. This suits someone who prefers atmosphere over projection, a contemplative scent for gray afternoons or a quiet evening coat. Skip it if you want to be noticed or crave a clean, sunlit floral. Fall is its season, hands down, when the air already carries that same decayed spice.
