Within minutes, cumin and pink pepper lurch forward, unwashed and vaguely sour, while the raspberry and rose twist into a jammy, almost medicinal sweetness that feels synthetic against the raw edges of Laotian oud. The heart is a battlefield: saffron’s metallic tang, cardamom’s green bite, and the dry, smoky whisper of cade oil and papyrus. Eventually the dust settles into a base of Atlas cedar and guaiac wood, softened by labdanum’s amber glow, but the cumin never fully relents. It lingers like the memory of a campfire soaked in spiced wine, a strange, clashing warmth that refuses to harmonize.
The overall character is a winter cabin where someone left a leather glove coated in ash and resin. It feels heavy, brooding, and unapologetically synthetic in the mid-stage, though the drydown has the gritty realism of real oud chips smoldering. Longevity is strong, easily pushing past eight hours on skin, but sillage stays close to the chest after the first two hours, which may be a mercy given the cumin’s reach. This is no crowd-pleaser; it demands a wearer who enjoys discomfort as much as comfort, someone who wants a scent that smells like a hard-won argument rather than a pleasant conversation.
Skip this if you recoil from savory, animalic notes or prefer your oud polished and polite. Wear it on a frigid winter night, preferably alone or to a dimly lit bar where you don’t mind sitting in your own cloud of smoke and spice.
