Our take

Malbec 20 opens with a bright, almost medicinal snap of saffron and nutmeg threaded through thyme and rosemary, a tangerine peel flickering just beneath the surface like a candle in a drafty room. That aromatic freshness quickly gets bulldozed by the middle: mastic and galbanum pitch the scene somewhere between a pine forest and a tar pit, while timur pepper and labdanum add a sticky, resinous warmth. The drydown settles into a familiar woody-tobacco blanket of sandalwood, cedar, patchouli, and a whisper of agarwood, all held together by a cashmeran-and-amber sweetness that feels more synthetic than rich.

This is a fragrance built like a weathered leather armchair by a dying fire, solid and comfortable but frustratingly short-lived. The sillage barely reaches past your own collar, and the longevity fades before the evening truly begins. It wears best as a night scent in deep autumn or winter, when its weight can cling to a coat or scarf for a few extra minutes. The sweetness sits just this side of cloying, but the fresh-spicy top notes keep it from collapsing into generic gourmand territory.

If you want a polite, accessible woody fragrance that won't offend anyone and fits a dinner-date or an office party, this could work. But those who crave projection, nuance, or anything daring should look elsewhere. At this rating, it is a decent composition that forgot to show up loud enough to be remembered.
