Our take

North Bondi by OUAI is a perfume that wants to be a sunlit memory but arrives as a whisper. It opens with a spritz of Italian lemon and bergamot, bright and slightly candied, before apple blossom and raspberry chime in like a fruit salad dropped on a linen tablecloth. The heart is a polite bouquet of May rose, violet, and jasmine, but none of them fight for attention, they just sort of hover there, powdering the air. The dry down brings white musk and a whisper of sandalwood, with patchouli kept so clean it might as well be a rumor. This is a fragrance that evaporates before it tells you its name, longevity clocks in at a disappointing 2.74 and sillage at 2.44, meaning you’re wearing it more for yourself than anyone near you.

The overall character is a beach towel at sunset, damp with salt and sunscreen but already half dry. It feels fresh and sweet in that synthetic-but-pleasant way of a well made mainstream body spray, not niche, not deep, just agreeable. Who should wear it? Someone who wants a fragrance that won’t intrude on a brunch meeting or a yoga class on a 90 degree day. It is strictly summer and strictly daylight, 100% and 99.62% respectively. Who should skip? Anyone expecting a chypre’s heft or a floral that lasts past lunch. The notes are lovely on paper, but the performance is a light breeze that fades before you can call it romantic. Is it really a chypre when the base barely registers?
