Our take

Obsession Sheer opens with a bright slap of bergamot and mandarin orange, but there is a dusky, almost dusty edge from marigold that stops it from being naive. Within minutes, coriander and incense begin to smolder beneath the citrus, giving the composition a warm, heady shimmer. The dry down reveals a soft vanilla and powdery musk, the amber smoothing everything into a faintly balsamic, herbal haze. This is not a loud fragrance. It is a sheer, yes, but also a whisper with a backbone.

The overall character reminds me of a single dried marigold petal pressed between the pages of an old paperback, still smelling of sun and dust and a hint of holy smoke. It feels both sweet and fresh spicy, a little synthetic around the edges in a way that betrays its early 2000s drugstore prestige. The longevity is short, barely three hours, and sillage hovers close to the skin like a private thought. That is the main weakness: you have to reapply or accept its vanishing act.

Who should wear it? Anyone who wants a light, breezy oriental for daytime in spring or fall, someone who finds heavy incense claustrophobic. Skip it if you demand projection or a nightclub presence. Wear it to a lazy brunch, a quiet afternoon at the office, or a walk where you only want to catch faint whiffs of yourself. It is a comfort scent, not a statement.
