Our take

The cedar arrives with a dry, upright posture that keeps the opening from collapsing into mud. Patchouli sits at the center of the composition, repeated through every stage so that the transitions feel like a deepening rather than a change of direction. Valerie Bessone built a structure where the same material is asked to do different work depending on where it sits.

Smoke curls through the resins in a way that feels closer to a cold stone hearth than to burning wood. The tonka bean adds a soft, rounded sweetness that never takes over, while the sandalwood underneath gives the whole thing a creamy weight. It smells like a heavy wool coat just pulled from a cedar-lined closet.

The powdery accord settles across the skin like fine dust on old furniture. Vanilla and amber pull the scent toward something comforting without making it smell edible. It fits a quiet street after rain when the air still holds a chill and the trees have not fully turned.

Incense lingers in the background with a faint, church-like gravity that the balsamic notes warm from the edges. The patchouli here is earthy and dark, not the sharp green variety found in lighter summer blends. There is a stillness to the way the resins and woods press together, a dense arrangement that keeps the focus on texture rather than movement, leaving the wearer surrounded by a mix of dry wood and gentle heat that refuses to rush toward a clear conclusion
