PURE PLAY opens with aldehydes, blood mandarin, and orange. The aldehydes give the citrus a bright, slightly sparkling edge that lifts the fruit without turning sharp. Sea notes sit underneath the opening, adding a salty, marine character that keeps the citrus from leaning fully into juice. The first impression is fresh, aldehydic, and aquatic, with the salt and the orange moving together in a clean, airy mix.
The heart brings neroli, pepper, and cedar. Neroli adds a white floral layer that feels soft and slightly creamy against the salt. Pepper gives a dry, lightly spicy lift that keeps the floral side from becoming too smooth. Cedar adds a pale wood tone that grounds the middle without adding weight. The aromatic accord becomes more noticeable here, with the pepper and the cedar giving structure to the neroli and the sea notes that carry over from the top.
The base combines tonka bean, white musk, vanilla, vetiver, amber, and elemi resin. Vanilla and tonka bean add a gentle sweetness that blends with the amber to create a warm, resinous foundation. White musk keeps the drydown smooth and close, while vetiver adds a dry, earthy contrast to the sweeter notes. Elemi resin brings a faintly crisp, resinous edge that ties the woods and the amber together. The vanilla accord lingers alongside the marine and aromatic tones.
