Our take

Rey by Maison Asrar opens with a brisk citrus slap bright bergamot and grapefruit zing over a green geranium stem. That initial freshness quickly softens as aromatic herbs and a crack of black pepper meet a creamy tonka bean, pulling the composition into something warmer but still airy. The drydown settles on a soft vanilla and ambergris base with just enough musk to keep it skin close. This is not a scent that announces itself from across the room the sillage rating of 2.89 tells you it stays polite and the longevity around three to four hours on skin demands reapplication. That is the honest weakness, it fades faster than you want.

The overall character reminds me of a cotton shirt left to dry on a sunlit balcony with a hint of spiced tea cooling nearby. It sits in that pleasant middle ground between a fresh fougere and an oriental, light enough for a spring afternoon but with enough amber and animalic whisper to work into a summer evening. The vanilla and tonka lean sweet but the grapefruit and aromatic notes keep it from cloying. It suits someone who prefers a refined, intimate scent for daytime wear, especially in spring or fall. Skip it if you need projection or expect a heavy, dark oriental. Wear it to brunch, a walk in the park, or a casual workday.
