Rose & Dragon
Fragrance notes
Character
Rose & Dragon opens with a sticky, almost jammy burst of wild strawberry that is immediately undercut by cumin and cinnamon. The saffron adds a metallic, leathery tang, and for the first few minutes this is a confrontational fruit bomb spiked with kitchen spice. But the heart quickly smothers that brightness: two roses, Bulgarian and Turkish, arrive honeyed and thick, with incense threading smoke through the petals. The dry down turns feral. Castoreum and leather drag the sweetness into a warm, animalic den, while labdanum and amber keep the whole thing from collapsing into barnyard chaos. The overall image is a rose that has been sleeping on a bed of smoldering embers and animal hides, its petals sticky with resin and sweat.
It feels dense and syrupy, leaning synthetic in the opening strawberry note but settling into a surprisingly natural leather-wrapped floral. The performance is honest rather than heroic: longevity sits at a solid three quarters of a day on skin, but sillage is a modest arm’s length, which actually suits its intimate, push-pull character. This is not a crowd-pleaser to spray freely at the office.
It belongs on cool evenings, preferably in autumn or winter when the warmth can curl around you. Wear it to a dimly lit dinner or a late night walk, not a sunny brunch. It suits anyone who craves a rose that has been roughed up, smoked, and left to ripen in a leather pouch. Skip it if you want your florals clean, dewy, or polite.
