Ultima opens with a sharp, almost abrasive citrus bite that can feel thin and screechy if the air is too warm. The mandarin orange and grapefruit arrive in a bright rush that cuts across the skin, and for the first few minutes the composition leans too heavily on that acidic edge, leaving little room for the rest of the fragrance to breathe.
You are standing on a wooden pier that stretches over a salt-sprayed bay. The morning sun warms the planks underfoot while a cool breeze carries sea mist across the railings. Mandarin and grapefruit lift from your wrist like the juice of fruit eaten on the dock, and the air around you carries the damp, green scent of bay leaf crushed between fingers. Jasmine floats through the breeze, soft and white against the blue water.
Below the surface, the wood of the pier meets the tide. Ambergris and guaiac wood ground the air with a dry, resinous weight, while oakmoss clings to the damp timber like a shadow. Patchouli adds an earthy depth that pulls the marine air toward the shore, mixing salt and soil into a single, steady breath that moves with the wind and settles into the grains of the wood
