Unda Maris 8
Fragrance notes
Character
Unda Maris 8 opens with a sharp, herbaceous slap of myrtle and eucalyptus, the citron cutting through like cold sea spray while artemisia adds a bitter green edge. Jasmine lingers beneath, not floral in the usual sense but saline and almost metallic. As it settles, the heart reveals a curious contradiction: nutmeg warms the salt air, geranium brings a dusty floral crispness, and the sea notes feel less like an ocean breeze and more like the damp wood of a boat hull left to dry in the sun. Then the dry down arrives with incense and benzoin, softened by vanilla and tonka, with white musk and patchouli anchoring it to skin. The whole thing smells like a weathered fisherman’s sweater abandoned on a sun-warmed rock, the wool carrying traces of brine, herbs, and smoky chapel incense.
It feels natural in its rawness and convincingly niche, though the marine accord can push slightly synthetic if you press your nose too close. The longevity is decent for a few hours but not a marathon, and the sillage stays close, almost reluctant to project. That makes it ideal for spring or summer days when you want to smell interesting without announcing yourself from across the room. Wear it on a coastal walk at dawn or an afternoon in a botanical garden. Skip it if you crave heavy, booming scents or anything sweet enough to eat. Who needs a nuclear aquatic when you can have this quiet, contemplative drift of salt and smoke?
