Our take

Quentin Bisch’s Venenum Kiss opens with a slap of saffron and nutmeg so sharp it almost draws blood, though neroli quickly wraps the spice in a citrus gauze. The heart is where this fragrance earns its name: a rose that feels plucked at dusk, its petals smeared with amber and a bitter whisper of artemisia that keeps everything from tipping into jammy sweetness. On the drydown, vanilla and sandalwood soften the blow, but styrax adds a resinous, almost metallic sheen, like a kiss that leaves a faint copper taste on your tongue.

Its overall character is that of a vintage compact mirror found in a thrift shop, tarnished silver housing a ghost of expensive lipstick. The composition strikes a fine balance between natural and synthetic, with the herbal artemisia and woody sandalwood grounding what could otherwise be a loud, mainstream amber bomb. Yet for all its complexity, the longevity and sillage numbers here are honest: this is a skin scent that stays intimate, fading to a powdery vanilla trace within four or five hours. You will need to reapply if you want more than a private whisper.

Who should wear it? Anyone who wants a rose that isn’t polite, a spicy floral that leans autumnal and prefers gray afternoons over garden parties. Skip it if you demand projection that fills a room, or if your idea of spice is a cinnamon candle. Wear it when the air turns crisp and the sun sets early, maybe to a dinner where you intend to lean in close. Isn’t that the point of a venomous kiss?
