Our take

White Rose de Alix opens with a tart, almost electric burst of litchi and raspberry, a juicy top note that feels more like a sparkling wine than a fruit bowl. The rose heart arrives quickly but it’s not the dewy English kind, it’s a saffron-laced peony and freesia blend that turns slightly powdery, like a vintage compact pressed against warm skin. Julie Pluchet clearly understood that a rose chypre needs tension, and the base delivers: white musk and vanilla give it a soft, cashmere-like sweetness, while patchouli and labdanum add a dusty, ambered warmth that stops the whole thing from floating away. The overall impression is of a silk scarf left on a sun-warmed marble bench, elegant but a little too polite. sillage hovers around the three mark, so don’t expect to announce yourself from across the room, and longevity fades after four hours, requiring a reapply for a full evening. It thrives in spring and early summer daylight, perfect for brunch dates or a garden wedding, and leans heavily toward those who prefer their florals with a sweet, musky undercurrent. Anyone who demands loud projection or a boozy, dark rose should skip it, this one whispers rather than commands. But for a sunny, feminine rose with a powdery, fruit-sweet finish, it’s a charming little number, just not a powerhouse.
