Our take

Fig opens The Noir 29 green and slightly milky, more leaf and stem than ripe fruit, while bay leaf and bergamot keep the top sharp and a little bitter. Cedar and vetiver take over in the heart, dry and dusty, with musk smoothing the transition but adding no real sweetness. By the base, tobacco and hay turn the composition toward something like a barn in late summer, warm straw more than smoke, and the citrus from the opening still flickers faintly underneath everything else.

The tobacco and hay keep going strong once the fig has faded from memory. What sillage there is stays gentle and short, picked up by whoever stands near, quiet and dry rather than loud, closer to the scent of a wool coat than a fragrance built to be loud.

Fall wear suits it particularly well, and it favors dry, green compositions over sweet or floral ones. People expecting a classic sweet tobacco fragrance, thick with vanilla and spice, will find this version drier and more herbal than that image suggests, built more around wood, hay and quiet restraint than sugar and volume.
