Babel Oud
Fragrance notes
Character
Babel Oud opens with a bright spray of Brazilian orange and bergamot, quickly joined by the sharp bite of ginger and cardamom. Clove adds a dry heat that keeps the citrus from feeling too fresh, while violet brings a soft, powdery edge to the first few minutes. The entrance feels active and layered, with spices and fruit competing for attention at once.
The heart settles into a rich Bulgarian rose that carries a faint green sharpness from cypriol. Ambrette smooths the transition, adding a musky roundness that bridges the spicy top to the heavy base. The rose here is not delicate, and it does not float above the composition. It sits firmly in the center, supported by earthy roots and a growing sense of weight.
Oud and leather dominate the foundation, backed by patchouli, Atlas cedar, and guaiac wood. Labdanum and ambergris add a warm, animalic resin that clings to the drier woods, while amyris contributes a subtle creamy touch. The blend feels dense and resinous, with the leather and oud leading a trail of smoke and musk that suits a cold morning walk or a heavy coat in damp air.
The cast is large, and the individual materials sometimes blur together rather than standing apart. The leather and oud are strong, yet the rose and citrus get lost beneath them faster than expected. The composition feels slightly crowded, and the balance tilts so far toward heavy woods that the lighter facets barely register.
