Café Elegante
Fragrance notes
Character
Café Elegante struggles with balance. The coffee note is loud and bitter, while the milk tries to soften the edges but ends up feeling thin. It can smell synthetic when the orange blossom meets the vanilla, creating a floral sweetness that feels slightly artificial rather than rich.
Mario Saldivar composed this 2023 release for Gula. The patchouli in the opening is earthy and dark, grounding the bright white floral top. As it moves to the heart, the lavender adds an aromatic coolness that conflicts with the warm spicy nature of the brew. The base is a heavy mix of cedar and vetiver, supporting the tonka bean. It is a gourmand that leans more woody than fruity, despite the official classification. The scent feels dense and suited for someone who enjoys bold, heavy orientals.
The vanilla and tonka bean create a thick, sugary residue that clings to the air like steam rising off a dark roast sitting on a mahogany table in a room lit only by a fireplace.
