Our take

The top of Cognac Blaze is a jolt of bitter coffee softened by bright mandarin and the herbal, almost boozy sweetness of davana. It’s a clever trick, that davana: it mimics the dried fruit and leather of an aged spirit without ever smelling like an actual cocktail. Within minutes, myrrh and black pepper arrive, dusty and sharp, wrapping the coffee in a wisp of incense smoke. Sandalwood provides a creamy, almost milky spine before the base takes over.

This is where the fragrance lives: a thick, powdery vanilla mixed with tonka’s almond-like warmth and a clean musk. The result feels like sinking into a worn leather club chair beside a dying fire, your sweater holding the scent of last night’s mulled wine and a forgotten espresso cup. It’s sweet and balsamic, leaning synthetic in the way modern designer gourmands do, but the myrrh keeps it from tipping into cloying. With longevity hovering around moderate and sillage close to the skin, this is not a statement piece. It’s a hug.

Best suited for cold weather evenings, particularly those transitional fall nights or deep winter dinners. Wear it to a jazz bar or a late movie. Skip it if you hate powdery vanillas or need screams from across the room. The real question is why this was launched in 2024 and not 2004, but that doesn’t make it any less satisfying. ☕
