Our take

Natsumatsuri opens with a bright spray of lemon, orange, lime, and grapefruit that feels immediate and sharp. The citrus is clean and vivid, giving the fragrance a clear start that settles quickly into the heart. Spearmint and lily-of-the-valley join the aldehydes there, adding a cool green edge to the melon, which rounds out the middle with a soft, watery sweetness. The mint keeps the florals from feeling heavy, while the aldehydes give the whole stage a slightly polished, airy lift that carries the fruit forward.

The base brings cyclamen, apricot, and honey together with amber and musk. The honey and apricot add a gentle, golden warmth that sits beneath the lighter florals, while the amber and musk provide a smooth, low foundation. The cyclamen keeps the transition from the heart feeling seamless, so the fragrance moves from crisp citrus to a warmer, slightly soapy finish without a jarring shift. The soapy facet becomes more noticeable as the composition settles.

The synthetic edge in the aldehydes and the musk can feel a bit pronounced, giving the blend a manufactured quality that some will find less appealing. The honey and melon also push the sweetness toward a level that may not suit those who prefer drier compositions. It is composed by Matsuno Hidenori and launched in 2024.
