Our take

Savannah Wild opens with a sharp, almost electric burst of black currant and mandarin, the citrus bright enough to cut through a morning haze. That tartness is quickly softened by rhubarb’s green, jammy tang and a hint of fig’s milky sweetness, while freesia and iris add a clean, powder-dusted floral lift. The drydown settles into Virginia cedar and heliotrope, the wood keeping things from tipping into cloying. The whole affair feels like a basket of just-picked fruit set on a sun-warmed granite ledge, a thin film of dust settling over everything.

Marie Salamagne’s 2010 composition is cheerful and undeniably mainstream, but it wears its synthetic edges with a certain breezy charm. The trouble is it evaporates as quickly as that morning sun burns off dew. With a longevity of 2.00 and sillage barely wafting at 2.17, you get a bright, fleeting moment, nothing more. Is that enough for a fragrance that costs nothing in terms of complexity?

This one lives best in high summer, worn with a white dress and sandals, reapplied every hour like a spritz of cool water. It suits someone who wants a quick, feel-good puff for the grocery run, not a signature scent. Skip it if you need something to hold your attention past lunch, or if you prefer your fruits dark and syrupy. Savannah Wild is a spark, not a flame, and works beautifully as a short, sweet escape. 🍋🌿
