Rum opens Straight to Heaven with a boozy, molasses-dark sweetness, thick enough that dried fruit barely registers as a separate note beside it. Patchouli moves in early too, earthy and slightly bitter, giving the rum a dry counterpoint right from the start. Sidonie Lancesseur built a fragrance that smells like a cellar more than a bar, all dark wood and old barrels rather than cocktail-hour sweetness.
Tonka and vanilla show up in the base and add a soft, dusty sweetness that never fully overtakes the patchouli's dryness. Leather and guaiac wood thicken the drydown further, adding a smoked, slightly bitter finish that balances the rum's sweetness with real weight.
Longevity is average, present at a steady pace without becoming the kind of scent you forget you're wearing. Sillage keeps a short leash too, a warmth you would notice on someone only once you were already close to them. Fall and winter are its best seasons by far, the kind of cold-weather evenings that give a dark, spiced rum accord somewhere to go. Spring and summer would likely smother its heavier elements entirely, flattening the contrast that makes the rum and patchouli interesting in colder air.
