Equistem opens with a sharp, cooling rush that can feel thin if you expect weight from the first spray. The cucumber and mint are bright and watery, and the bergamot adds a clean citrus edge, but the lavender pushes the top into a soapy territory that some will find too sharp for comfort. It is a very direct opening that does not ease in gently, and the initial spray can come across as aggressively fresh rather than inviting.
The heart settles into green stems and petals. Hyacinth and geranium give a crisp, slightly bitter leafiness, while the French orange flower and petitgrain keep the tone bright and sunlit. It suits a warm morning where the air feels clear and active, or a bright winter day when the sky is pale and cold. The floral side stays restrained and never turns powdery, letting the green accord lead the way through the middle phase.
The base brings tobacco and oakmoss under a soft layer of vanilla and sandalwood, with ambergris adding a faint marine warmth. The vanilla is light and does not dominate, but the soapy sharpness from the opening sometimes returns in the drydown, which can feel at odds with the earthy moss and wood. That lingering clean edge is the one aspect that may bother those who want a smooth, fully cohesive finish.
