Le Somptueux
Fragrance notes
Character
Le Somptueux opens with saffron threaded through orange blossom, rock rose, and bergamot. The saffron arrives first and sets a dry, slightly metallic tone that keeps the citrus from feeling bright. Orange blossom adds a soft floral lift, while rock rose contributes a resinous weight that grounds the top notes quickly. Bergamot sits in the background, offering a thin peel-like sharpness that fades as the heart notes take over.
Cinnamon leads the middle, supported by palisander rosewood, red rose, jasmine, and iris. The cinnamon is prominent and warm, pushing the roses and jasmine into a heavy, rounded floral blend. Palisander rosewood adds a dry, woody edge that prevents the flowers from dominating. Iris brings a powdery texture that sits across the entire heart, reinforcing the amber and cinnamon accords already listed. The transition from top to heart feels smooth, with the saffron lingering just long enough to meet the cinnamon.
Leather and oud anchor the base, joined by tolu balsam, vanilla, amber, and sandalwood. The leather is pronounced and pairs directly with the oud, creating a dark, animalic foundation. Tolu balsam and amber add a balsamic sweetness that balances the leather, while vanilla and sandalwood soften the edges. The powdery accord from the heart continues here, mixing with the sweet and woody elements. The composition is dense and heavy throughout, which makes it difficult to wear in warm weather or bright daytime settings. The strong animalic and leather combination can feel overwhelming on sensitive skin.
