Our take

Oud 27 opens with a slap of civet and aldehydes that feels less like a perfume and more like a forgotten leather trunk hauled out of a damp cellar. The rose is barely audible, a bruised whisper under a blanket of musk, oud, and ambergris so thick you could chew it. As it settles, the cedar and vetiver try to lend some structure, but the patchouli and amber just push everything deeper into the dark. This is the smell of a velvet chaise in a smoke-filled library where the ashtrays haven’t been emptied since 1978.

The overall character is a heavy, animalic fog—natural in its raw earthiness, yet relentlessly niche in its refusal to beg for approval. It sits close to the skin (that sillage score is truthful) and lasts a decent workday, though the drydown turns powdery and a bit flat, like the last ember of a fire that burned too fast.

This is for the person who wants to smell like an expensive mistake, not a fresh start. Skip it if you prefer clean linen or anything that says “approachable.” Wear it on a rainy November evening, when you want your fragrance to be a warning rather than an invitation. It’s not sweet, not friendly, and that’s exactly the point.
