Our take

Place Rouge opens with a surprising slap of rosemary, green and almost medicinal, before bergamot cuts through with a bright citrus fizz and orange blossom drops a soft floral sweetness. The heart is where Guerlain’s Thierry Wasser shows his hand. Violet and heliotrope spin a powdery, almond-sweet haze that feels like crushed flower petals dusted with face powder, while jasmine adds a creamy, almost indolic depth. The base pulls it back to earth with a clean white musk and a patchouli so restrained it barely whispers, more dirt than dark.

The overall character is a vintage powder compact left open on a mossy garden bench. It wears close to the skin. The sillage is modest, a 3.12 that will not fill a room, and longevity taps out around four hours before fading into a skin scent. That restraint keeps it from feeling synthetic or cloying, but you will need to reapply.

This fragrance suits someone who wants a polite, powdery floral with a green edge, perfect for spring afternoons or crisp fall days. The heavy daytime vote makes sense. Skip it if you crave projection or deep, resinous chypres. Place Rouge is a soft, composed whisper in a world of shouts.
