Mimosa gives Prada its identity from the first minute, powdery and faintly almond-like, layered over a citrus mix of bergamot, bitter orange and mandarin that adds real brightness underneath the powder.
Patchouli and rose take over as the fragrance settles, earthy and dark against the rose's sweetness, and pink pepper adds a small, spiced crackle right at the seam between the two. Carlos Benaim and the Gavarry team built a fragrance that swings hard from bright and powdery to dark and resinous, and the swing itself is the whole appeal.
Benzoin, sandalwood and labdanum thicken the base considerably, giving Prada a warm, amber-heavy finish that has little in common with the citrus it opened on. Tonka bean adds a last trace of sweetness before the fragrance settles fully into skin. Cold weather is when this amber-heavy structure makes the most sense, worn into evenings when a dark, resinous base has cold air to push against.
Staying power is strong, holding its resinous, ambery character long after the mimosa has faded into memory. Projection stays in the modest range, close enough for someone to notice the shift from powder to resin only once they are near. Between the bright opening and the dark, amber-heavy base, Prada Prada covers more emotional ground than its plain name suggests.
