Queen Vanilla arrives like a dollop of crème brûlée dropped into a basket of just-picked berries, a syrupy, indulgent opening that leans hard into fruity sweetness. Wild berries, peach, raspberry, and plum tumble together with bergamot, a glossy top note that feels more candied than fresh. The heart thickens with crème brûlée and jasmine, though the blueberry and frangipani blur into a generic floral jam. Then comes the base, where Madagascar vanilla meets caramel and amber, softened by benzoin and a whisper of patchouli. It’s a warm, powdery Oriental vanilla that sits close to the skin like a sticky hug.
The overall character is unmistakably mainstream, a sweet tooth’s delight that feels synthetic in the best possible way, like a gourmand cloud you’d happily get lost in. But here’s the rub: longevity clocks in at a disappointing 2.85 and sillage at 2.59, so this queen abdicates fast. You’ll be reapplying within two hours, and forget about leaving a trail. The 2019 creation by Fanny Grau and Marilia Zavisas Duarte is best suited for cool weather, fall and winter nights, when that cozy vanilla blanket can huddle close without the heat melting it into cloying nothingness. If you crave projection and staying power, skip it. But if you want a gentle, comforting scent for intimate evenings or layering under a coat, Queen Vanilla delivers a sweet, ambered sigh that’s hard to resent.
