Sandalo Inspiritu opens with a bright, slightly sharp citrus mix that can feel thin before the rest of the composition arrives. The petitgrain, coriander, Amalfi lemon, bitter orange, and clementine give a brisk start that lacks depth on its own. This initial lightness is the fragrance’s main weakness, as it does not prepare the wearer for the weight that follows and can read as simple when compared to the rest of the development.
The heart quickly changes the direction. Rose and hazelnut sit beside sandalwood, nutmeg, benzoin, and frankincense. The nuts and spices give the floral aspect a dry, textured feel, while the resins add a steady warmth. The sandalwood here is smooth rather than dry, and it bridges the citrus top and the heavy base without creating a sharp break between them.
The base is dense and resinous. Amber, ambrette, patchouli, Virginia cedar, French labdanum, oakmoss, myrrh, opoponax, Peru balsam, and tolu balsam combine into a thick, sweet, and woody foundation. The balsamic elements stand out clearly, giving the drydown a sticky, golden quality that lingers on the skin. The patchouli and cedar add earth and structure to keep the sweetness from becoming flat.
This is a full, resin-heavy composition that suits cooler weather and evening wear. It fits someone who enjoys heavy oriental woods and does not mind a prominent balsamic tone. The overall character is defined by its amber accord.
