Satine

Pink pepper gives Satine a brief spiced lift before heliotrope and gardenia settle in, soft and slightly almond-like in character. Nathalie Lorson leans on tonka bean and vanilla early, so the fragrance comes across warm and powdery almost immediately, closer to a cashmere sweater than a bouquet. The gardenia never gets much room to be a real white flower here; it is folded into the warmth rather than allowed to lead on its own.

Sandalwood, patchouli and vetiver anchor the drydown, adding a dry, woody undertone beneath the vanilla's sweetness and giving the whole thing a soft, sueded texture. The vetiver adds a faint bitterness under all that warmth, a small dry counterpoint to the vanilla and tonka.

It wears at a fair, unspectacular pace, neither clingy nor fleeting, holding a steady middle course. It forms a small aura right around the body, felt at a handshake distance, gentle enough that it never demands much attention once it settles in.

Satine suits cooler months best, fall and winter especially, when its powdery warmth feels most at home against heavier fabrics. It has an old-fashioned comfort to it, gentle enough for skin that doesn't want to work hard for warmth, closer to a soft blanket than a statement piece.
