Our take

Shades Blue opens with a brisk citrus handshake, grapefruit and lemon jostling with cardamom and bergamot. It is a sunlit, almost caffeinated start, but the heart quickly pulls the rug with a curious turn. Ginger and mint meet pine and rosemary, a green and slightly medicinal combination that feels like walking into a forest after a sudden rain shower. The nutmeg adds a faint warmth, but it’s the vetiver and patchouli base that anchors the whole affair to earth. This is an Oriental Fougere that doesn’t want to lounge in a leather armchair; it wants to sit on a park bench with a cold drink.

The overall character is a little like a crisp linen shirt that has been stored with cedar blocks and a sprig of mint. It feels fresh and aromatic, leaning synthetic in the top notes but settling into a pleasant, if unremarkable, woody warmth. Where it stumbles is in its endurance. With longevity slouching near the 2.85 mark and sillage barely a whisper at 2.50, this is a fragrance that lasts through a coffee break and no further. It suits the man who needs a quick, clean spritz for daytime errands in spring or summer, not for a night out or a day that stretches into evening. If you want a scent that stays and insists on being noticed, skip it. But for a fleeting moment of pleasant coolness under hot sun, it performs its modest job without complaint.
