The Smart Set
Fragrance notes
Character
The Smart Set opens with a sharp bite of grapefruit and bergamot that cuts through the ground pepper immediately. This bright, citrus-led start feels active and alert, like walking into a busy morning meeting with a clear agenda. The pepper adds a dry heat that keeps the fruit from leaning sweet, while the cedar heart anchors the blend with a clean, pencil-sharpening woodiness. Plum sits quietly in the middle, offering a dark, rounded fruitiness that prevents the spices from becoming too austere.
As the day moves forward, the coffee and patchouli in the base provide a steady, earthy weight. The vetiver grounds the composition further, giving it a rooty, soil-like texture that feels substantial on the skin. This is a scent that stays present through a long schedule without ever announcing itself across a room. It remains close, creating a personal atmosphere rather than a wide trail, which suits a professional environment where subtlety is valued over volume.
Nathalie Lorson composed a fragrance that feels polished and put together, though the cloves can occasionally push a little too hard, creating a medicinal sharpness that distracts from the smooth wood. The coffee note also leans slightly synthetic, lacking the natural roast found in more expensive blends. It is a durable companion for the daylight hours, but the spice balance requires a tolerance for that specific, piercing clove edge.
