Our take

Bertrand Duchaufour’s Царевна-Лебедь opens with a salty, almost startling splash of sea spray and juniper, a cold marine bite that is quickly tempered by the bright citron and a fizzy pink pepper. This is not a shy entrance; it announces itself like a sudden breeze off a northern lake. Then the marshmallow arrives, soft and pillowy, wrapping the aquatic notes in a sweet, powdery haze. The lotus and magnolia stay translucent, never going full soapy or tropical, while a faint hawthorn adds a green, slightly tart edge that keeps the whole thing from drifting into pure candy floss. As it dries down, the vanilla and sandalwood emerge, clean and lightly musky, but they do so faintly, like a whisper from across a room.

The overall character is a glistening, fairy-tale image: a white swan gliding on a silver pond, edges soft from fog, yet the water itself is cold and sharp. It feels more synthetic than natural, but in a perfumer’s way, not a drugstore one. For all its sweetness, it stays airy rather than heavy, a delicate veil rather than a blanket.

Unfortunately, that veil is thin. The longevity and sillage ratings here are brutally honest. This sits close to the skin and fades within a few hours, barely trailing. It is a daytime scent through and through, perfect for a cool spring morning or a breezy summer brunch. Wear it if you love a soft, powdery floral that doesn’t shout, and skip it if you expect your perfume to outlast your lipstick. It charms briefly, then vanishes into the air like steam off tea.
