Our take

This is Chanel’s attempt to strip No 5 of its formidable shoulders and dress it in a slip dress for brunch. The opening is a citrus peel shower, lemon, lime, orange, and bergamot all zesting at once, but the aldehydes are still there, just dialed down to a sparkling whisper rather than a champagne pop. Within minutes, the white florals step in like polite guests, jasmine and ylang-ylang softened by rose, and the real pivot is the powdery orris root that arrives early, dusting everything with a vintage elegance that contradicts the fresh start.

The overall character is a beige trench coat over a neon bikini, it tries to be casual but can’t shake its couture lineage. The base is vanilla and cedar, clean white musk, all very safe, which is both the relief and the letdown. Longevity is a modest three to four hours, sillage a soft aura, you will need to reapply, and that is fine for a daytime spritz but disappointing for the price. This feels polished, slightly synthetic in the most mainstream way, a calculated compromise between heritage and modern refresh.

Who suits anyone who finds the original No 5 too matronly or overwhelming but still wants that DNA present. Skip it if you crave depth or a dark floral that lingers into the night, this is a morning fragrance, pure spring and summer, and its 100% day rating confirms it.
