Gueule de Bois
Fragrance notes
Character
Gueule de Bois opens like a bar towel wrung out over a hot radiator: rum and cinnamon hit first, sticky and sharp, then black and pink pepper raking across the gums. There is no gentle hand here. The heart turns metallic with rose oxide and aldehydes, a queasy, almost fuzzy floral that mimics the morning-after haze before amyris and damascone soften the edges into something more pliable. By the drydown, the base has yawned open—guaiac wood, incense, tobacco, a curl of licorice, and vanilla all tangled in a warm, slightly powdery amber embrace. It smells like regret that’s decided to get comfortable.
The overall character is a boozy night that never quite leaves your skin, but it stays close. Really close. With a sillage barely brushing 2.02 and longevity just under three hours, this is less a fragrance and more a private note to yourself. It feels natural in its warmth but synthetic in its sheen, like a niche scent that reached for grit and landed on cozy. Best suited for fall evenings when you want to smell interesting without announcing yourself from across the room. Skip it if you crave projection or all-day wear—this is a whisper, not a shout. Wear it to a dim bar, a late dinner, or a quiet walk home when the air smells like wet leaves and you want to remember something you’d rather not. It’s a beautiful hangover, but it fades before the coffee arrives. ☕
