Our take

Lonestar opens with a bright mix of basil, cypress, bergamot and Amalfi lemon. The green edge of the basil sits next to the resinous cypress, while the citrus adds a clean lift that keeps the entrance from feeling heavy. It moves quickly into a heart built around vetiver, carnation, jasmine, patchouli, Virginia cedar and geranium. The vetiver brings an earthy dryness that the carnation and jasmine soften just enough, and the cedar adds a firm wooden spine. Patchouli deepens the green feeling without turning dark, and the geranium keeps the floral side restrained and masculine.

The base gathers musk, oakmoss, frankincense, benzoin, castoreum, French labdanum, amber, leather and tonka bean. Frankincense and benzoin give a resinous warmth that the labdanum and amber reinforce, while the leather and castoreum add a rough, animalic weight. Oakmoss pulls the composition toward a mossy forest floor, and the tonka bean rounds the edges with a mild sweetness. The musk sits underneath to bind the heavier materials together so the transition feels steady rather than abrupt.

This is a fragrance for a cold evening walk through a quiet city, when the air feels crisp and the streets are mostly empty. The smoky, woody and warm spicy accords create a dense personal atmosphere that fits that kind of stillness. It suits someone who enjoys resinous and mossy scents with a strong leather presence. Those who dislike heavy animalic notes or dense oriental compositions will find it overwhelming. It closes on the amber accord.
