Our take

The room is dim and the glass in your hand holds something dark. Rum leads the first impression, brightened by bergamot and threaded with saffron. It feels festive and a little reckless, the kind of opening that suggests the night has already begun without you. Lavender and cardamom steady the spices, while cedar and sandalwood add a polished wood surface beneath the heat.

Guaiac wood deepens the heart, moving the scent away from a simple drink and toward a crafted space. The spices remain, but they sit inside a structure now. This is not a fragrance that rushes to impress. It prefers to settle, letting the aromatic herbs and warm woods create a backdrop that feels intentional rather than loud.

The drydown is where Midnight finds its true shape. Birch brings a leather accord that feels worn and personal, not stiff. Vanilla and tonka bean add a creamy sweetness, but the amber and vetiver keep it grounded. Musk softens the edges. The smoke from the accords lingers here, wrapping the woods in a haze that feels intimate and slightly mysterious.

Composed by Matthieu Meneuvrier, this blend tries to balance a boozy start with a serious woody finish. The limitation is that the rum and citrus can feel a bit synthetic against the natural wood. The transition is not always seamless, and the sweetness in the base may feel heavy to those who prefer a drier finish.
