Phul - Nana
Fragrance notes
Character
Phul - Nana opens with a sharp citrus peel that feels almost medicinal, bergamot and neroli jostling with a honeyed orange that suggests something richer lurking underneath. Within minutes, the yellow floral heart pushes forward, and this is where the fragrance reveals its true nature: a powdery, narcotic tuberose wrestling with a jammy ylang-ylang, grounded by a geranium that adds a green, almost bitter edge. The dry down is a slow, warm collapse into opoponax and benzoin, a resinous vanilla cocoon wrapped in dusty cedar and just enough patchouli to keep it from turning into a gourmand dessert.
The overall character reminds me of an old wooden trunk lined with faded silk, filled with dried orange peel, a grandmother’s compact powder, and the ghost of a church incense burner. It feels unapologetically retro, leaning heavy and sweet with a faintly medicinal balsamic undertone that some will adore and others will find cloying. This is not a fresh or breezy scent; it sits close to the skin with moderate sillage and a longevity that’s respectable but not commanding, about four to five hours before it becomes a skin scent. The numbers confirm it: solid but not beastly.
Who should wear it? Someone who likes their florals dark and their vanillas smoky, who isn’t afraid of smelling like a 1940s Hollywood dressing room. Skip it if you prefer clean laundry or transparent aquatics. Best worn in the cool of autumn evenings or overcast spring afternoons, when the warmth can bloom without suffocating. It works equally well for day and night, but save it for moments when you want to feel dressed, not casual.
